Freshwater King Prawn

Freshwater King Prawn’s scientific name is Macrobrachium rosenbergii, also known as the Giant River Prawn or Giant Freshwater King Prawn from the family PALAEMONIDAE and Alpha Code: PRF. It is a commercially important species of palaemonid freshwater prawn. Bangladesh is considered as one of the most suitable country in the world for Freshwater Prawn “Golda Chingri” due to its climatic conditions. It is found throughout the tropical and subtropical areas of the Indo-Pacific region, from Bangladesh, India to Southeast Asia. It is one of the biggest freshwater prawns in the world and is widely cultivated in several countries for food. They are predominantly brownish in color but can vary. Smaller individuals may be greenish in color and display faint vertical stripes. Bangladesh is major Asian supplier of Freshwater King Prawn and mainly available from October to March.
